European Getaway Day 8 (23-11-2006)

Day in Florence

Today we had a day to ourselves in Florence. We had to get the coach in which took 45 mins. We first did a walking tour with Jaz and she showed us all the famous places and told us what to watch out for. The thing about the walking tours is that the local police do not like tour guides who are not from the town. If they saw Jaz talking to us about the place they would have harassed her. This did not happen to our tour as she was always on the look out for them and would stop talking and walk away if she did see any as she didn’t want the hassle.

It was great to walk around the town and see all the sights. After Jaz had done her tour we had the rest of the day to explore and then meet back at the bus drop off point at 4pm which had to be exactly at 4 as the bus could only wait in the spot for 5 mins. When we had the time to ourselves we headed straight for gelato. I ended up walking around with Kieran, Sam, Tarshi and Tegan.. After Gelato which was delicious we went and saw David (the statue of), could not go to Florence without seeing him. Now one thing to know is that the girls go mental for this guy and he is a piece of stone! I have to admit it was made brilliantly he even had veins in his arms it was great. But the girls were all swooning over this piece of stone. It really did move there world. So ladies if you are going to Florence go see David and leave your men at home so you can have a good time with the stone.

After David the girls cooled off and we went to the Da Vinci museum where we caught up to Yo on the way. The museum was cool you could play and interact with some of the things that Leonardo invented and it made you realize how much of a genius the guy was, it was really cool. While in the museum we met up with a couple of the other guys from the tour. After which it was almost time to meet back up with the bus. We ducked into Macas (I had the royal with cheese Pulp fiction anyone) for some lunch. And then went to the local markets. Kieran bought a scarf, me I got nothing and Sam bought a belt which didn’t fit her but the guy just cut the belts and then re attached the buckle. Was crazy how he just attacked the belts.

That night we were having dinner back in Florence so if we wanted to stay we could have but we decided to go back to the campsite get changed and relax a little bit. We walked back to the bus but ended up having to run as we only had 5 mins to get there. And if we weren’t there we would have to stay in town till dinner. As we were running Ashoor came piss bolting past and ran in front of me. What had happened to him was he had realised the time and just took off running, problem was he was out side of a shop when he took off and the owners thought he had stolen something so they started running after him. He didn’t know what was happening and why these guys were chasing him so he just kept running until he met up with us and then hid in front of me. We made it back to the bus in time.

After a change of clothes few beers and some relaxing we headed back into Florence to the ‘House of Sizzle’. For dinner pretty much everyone ordered the steak as we haven’t had it for a while. However the steak wasn’t much to write home about (even though I am) it was just a 1 min steak which they managed to over cook. It was a thin piece of meat with some salad on the side. Was still an alright meal, for 3 courses we only paid 10 euro each. It was happy hour at the bar, I bought Kieran and I a cocktail I had the Harvey Wallbanger and Kieran had the Orgasm, they were only 4.5 euro each which isn’t bad when beer is 4 euro.

After dinner we headed to the bar where we watched the Ashes highlights of the first day, there was karaoke playing. We ended up just have a few beers from our Heineken tower. (see photo of me, Aaron and Lloydy) I didn’t get up to sing and that’s how the night ended.
