Glastonbury and Glens Birthday.

Glastonbury Festival is a massive 3 day music festival. I had decided earlier in the year that I would try and get tickets (as it was my birthday weekend). Even though the line up had not been announced I still wanted my tickets along with millions of others. The tickets went on sale 1st April and u had to pre-register with a photo so they could put it on ur ticket, to that ppl couldn’t scalp them. The tickets sales opened at 8am and I had my 2 tickets by 9:30 I was a lucky one.

We decided that we would drive there instead of catching the bus as we could decide when we wanted to leave and what way to go. It was a good thing we did as the girls who took the bus got there 4 hrs late and the bus driver got lost. We hired a little Peugeot 307 was a nice little car with only 4000 miles on it. I was the designated driver, European cars are ok but u have to get used to the indicator being on the wrong side so when changing lanes, we kept put the windscreen wipers on. Can get very annoying.

We left on the Thursday so we could get a spot to pitch our tent. We left at 6:30am and had a really good drive up there with no real traffic, even drove past Stone Henge. We got to the farm and parked the car with out any troubles. Lugging our bags and tent to our camping spot was another story. We were lucky that one of the girls we were camping with had friends already there and they had saved some spots on a hill (due to flooding previous years u don’t want to be on a flat) we carried out bags for over 1.5 hrs trying to find this camp spot and work our way around the farm (which is massive). We got there and had out tent up by 3pm and had to get some lunch. One really long day.
Over the rest of the weekend from Friday to Sunday, we had nothing but music and festival food ohh plus beers. It was awesome and just flew we would wake at 10am, get ready to face the weather and then come back to the tent around 3am the next day. I was amazing how many people were there and the sea of tents. It truly was a massive festival and a great way to spend a birthday weekend. There were so many bands we saw and heaps of great gigs.

We were glad to have our gumboots due to all the mud it was hectic to see it go from grass the first day to insane mud pools the next few. After the last gig of the Friday night Kieran and I headed back to the tent which took us over an hr to get back there due to the crowds and no one being able to walk in the mud. At one point we all just stood still with no where to go you could not physically move.

Even though there was mega mud I think it helped make the weekend as we had heard so much about this crazy mud that if we didn’t see it I might have been a bit disappointed. A true English styled weather event.

Here’s to trying again next year.
